G.I. Joe Cobra C.L.A.W. (1984)
Overview
The Cobra C.L.A.W. was released in 1984 as part of the legendary G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero line by Hasbro.
“C.L.A.W.” stands for Covert Light Aerial Weapon, a small one-man Cobra flying craft designed for rapid aerial assaults, reconnaissance, and surprise attacks. It became one of Cobra’s most recognizable small vehicles thanks to its compact size, aggressive design, and affordability for kids during the 1980s.
The CLAW gave Cobra a fast airborne troop vehicle that felt like a futuristic jetpack mixed with a mini attack glider. Many collectors still see it as one of the coolest “entry-level” Cobra vehicles ever made.
Key Features
1. Compact Flight Vehicle
The CLAW was small enough to fit almost any Cobra trooper, making it highly playable and easy to integrate into battles.
2. Twin Missile Launchers
It featured dual side-mounted missile pods that gave the vehicle a strong attack profile despite its small size.
3. Folding Landing Skids
The retractable skids allowed the CLAW to switch between “flight mode” and parked display mode.
4. Rear Engine Design
The large exposed turbine engine at the back gave the vehicle a very aggressive and futuristic appearance.
5. Troop Builder Favorite
Because the CLAW was relatively inexpensive compared to larger vehicles, many kids owned multiple units to create Cobra air squadrons.

European Action Force Versions Exist
European Action Force releases and packaging variants have become highly collectible among international fans. A Reddit collector recently mentioned finding a sealed European CLAW in box.
Why Collectors Love It
The Cobra CLAW perfectly captures the spirit of early 1980s G.I. Joe design: compact, imaginative, and instantly fun. It wasn’t realistic military hardware like the ASP, but it delivered pure Cobra-style airborne action.
For many fans, the CLAW is the ideal “small vehicle” — affordable, display-friendly, and unmistakably Cobra.
