The Cobra S.N.A.K.E. Armor was one of the most unique releases of the early G.I. Joe years, combining military sci-fi with powered combat armor technology. It could hold a Cobra figure inside the mechanical suit or be displayed as a robotic combat unit.

Features

  • Powered Battle Armor Design: Mechanical exoskeleton suit for Cobra soldiers

  • Opening Cockpit Armor: Fits a standard 3.75-inch G.I. Joe figure inside

  • Interchangeable Weapon Arms: Included machine gun, flamethrower, claw, and rocket weapon attachments

  • Display Support Frame: Included internal rubber support frame for displaying armor without a figure inside

  • Classic Cobra Styling: Off-white armor with red Cobra decals and mechanical detailing

The S.N.A.K.E. armor weighed about 700 pounds in fictional specifications and featured multiple modular weapons systems.

Fun Facts

  • In the original Sunbow cartoon, the S.N.A.K.E. units were portrayed more like robots than wearable armor.

  • Many collectors remember using the armor as robotic drones instead of powered suits.

  • The toy included interchangeable weapon hands, making it highly customizable for battles.

  • The red and white decals are very prone to scratching and wear over time.

  • A rare blue repaint version was later released in limited numbers during the mid-1980s.

Collector Notes

  • The interchangeable weapon arms are the most commonly missing accessories.

  • The internal rubber support frame often deteriorates with age.

  • Original stickers frequently show scratching or discoloration.

  • Complete boxed examples are increasingly difficult to find, especially in Europe.

  • Reproduction weapon parts exist, so verified originals are preferred by collectors.
