G.I. Joe D.E.M.O.N. (1988)

Overview

The D.E.M.O.N. (Dual Elevating Multi-Ordnance Neutralizer) was released in 1988 as part of the Iron Grenadiers line. Developed by Destro, it is a heavily armed, transforming assault vehicle that can change from a low-profile assault craft into an elevated attack platform. It originally came with the Ferret figure.

Key Features

  • Dual-mode vehicle — can operate in low assault mode or elevated attack mode.

  • Six-missile launcher mounted on a pivoting launcher system.

  • Three-seat cockpit beneath a hinged canopy.

  • Elevated configuration provides a higher firing position.

  • Docking platform for Destro's Despoiler, allowing the two Iron Grenadiers vehicles to be displayed together.

  • Multiple guns and laser weapons.

  • Detailed mechanical sculpting throughout the vehicle.

  • Originally packaged with Ferret, the D.E.M.O.N. driver.

Fun Facts

A True Iron Grenadier Vehicle

The D.E.M.O.N. was one of the original vehicles created specifically for Destro's Iron Grenadiers, introduced in 1988.

Two Different Modes

One of its coolest features is the ability to transform between a low assault configuration and a much taller elevated attack configuration.

Six-Missile Launcher

The pivoting launcher holds six missiles, giving the D.E.M.O.N. an impressive amount of firepower for a 3.75-inch scale vehicle.

Works With Destro's Despoiler

The D.E.M.O.N. was designed with a docking pad that allows Destro's Despoiler to sit on top of the vehicle. This makes the two vehicles particularly attractive as a matching Iron Grenadiers display.

Released in 1988 and 1989

The D.E.M.O.N. was available in both 1988 and 1989, with no major production variation identified between those releases.

Ferret Is Important to Completeness

The original set included Ferret, and the figure is therefore an important part of a complete boxed set. The Ferret figure itself is also identified specifically as the D.E.M.O.N. driver.

What Makes a D.E.M.O.N. Complete?

A desirable complete set should include:

  • D.E.M.O.N. main vehicle

  • Six original missiles

  • Missile launcher

  • Laser gun

  • Laser cannon

  • Cannons

  • Cockpit components

  • Seats

  • Canopy

  • Elevating mechanism

  • Original decals

  • Ferret figure

  • Ferret's accessories

The red cockpit/light components are worth checking carefully, as replacement parts can affect authenticity and value.
